My Little Fairy

Sometimes I have to wonder: Is my son the last 5-year old in America willing to don a princess dress and fairy wings and dance to the Nutcracker Suite? Because that's exactly what Baxter did last Friday night with his friend Ella and her younger sister, Gillie. He leaped, he twirled, he pranced down the long hallway. It's hard to see in the photo, but Baxter and Gillie danced around an American flag like it was a Maypole. What I would've given for George Bush to have been there.
I love that a semester of kindergarten hasn't knocked his imperviousness to stereotypical gender roles out of him. You've seen the photo of him hugging Lucy; he was dressed in a Cinderella dress there. But that was before school started, and I remember wondering how long he'd be willing to do such a thing without embarrassment. It's lasting longer than I expected, and I'm thrilled.
[By the way, maybe I'm the last to know, but I just discovered that you can click on these photos to see them in larger size.]
