Believing

Baxter and I were discussing Easter yesterday. You know, what it will be like, wondering if the Easter Bunny will give Lyle his own basket for collecting eggs and how to teach a 1-year old to hunt for Easter Eggs. The Important Stuff. Suddenly, Baxter looked up at me and asked, "Is the Easter Bunny real?" Hmm. I used my favorite response, the one that has worked well for years now: "Do you believe in him?" "No," he said.

We've had this conversation time and time again about Santa, his elves, Rudolph, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny; this was the first time he answered with a "no". "Here it is," I thought. "The day he finds out that it's all just for fun and we have to quickly rope him into keeping Lyle and every young child in America in the dark." But before I opened my big mouth, I thought to ask, "Hmm...well, what do you think?"

"I think it's really a fairy," he said happily.
